While the industry celebrated new and upcoming fabrics and sewing tools at the Quilt Market in Houston this past weekend, the Internet (well, Amy’s Creative Side) celebrates the Blogger’s Quilt Festival for all us folks who stayed home. Besides it being a neat way to show your own favourite project off it’s also a place to meet other bloggers and dive into some new-to-you blogs.
I decided to enter my Hexagon World Map Quilt into the ROYGBIV (rainbow) category. I made it during the summer from lots of scraps I had left over, so it has all colours of the rainbow starting with blue in Alaska to violet in East Asia.
The Hexagons were appliquéd with straight lines running from corner to corner. If you want to read more about this quilt, how and why I made it, check out my original post for it.
The voting on the various categories starts November 1st. So make sure to check out all the entries and vote for your favourites to win some lovely prizes.

Wow! It’s a gorgeous quilt, what a great way to use up scraps.
Thank you so much Kate! Yes, it’s a great scrap project and I love to make hexies when watching TV or when traveling, it’s so mobile!
I love hexagons, so was drawn to your quilt. A wonderful rendition – would have fit the modern quilt category easily, too. Congrats.
I was wondering where to enter this quilt but decided against the modern category, because I sensed a more geometric, simplistic vibe from the entries already submitted.
Thank you so much for your lovely words, Angie!
What a fun idea! Love it! I tried that technique too and both your projects are really awesome!
Thank you Vera, also for pointing me to the leather tutorial yesterday, much appreciated! =)
This is truly amazing! What a fantastic way to applique’ hexies – and such a striking design, too! Love it!
Thank you so much Deonn. I love the colours autumn paints. The appliqué method was invented by modernhandcraft.com.
I LOVE this quilt so much and have really enjoyed checking out the BQF :)
thank you Jo! Yes, it’s like a big pool of pretty things to dive into =)

Got to love a hexie! Very creative!
Hey Sharon, thank you for your lovely comment!
I’m not into hexagon quilts, but I really like what you have done here. Attaching them to the background as you have gives a whole new dimension. I love the modern look of this quilt. I hope you do well. good luck
Thank you so much Hilary. I hadn’t been interested in hexies before I learned about this technique, either. I visited your blog and wow, your quilting skills are out of this world! xx Vicky

This is perfection all around! I’ve been wanting to do a world map quilt with hexies, and your rainbow take is awesome :)
