nail polish mini quilt

Have you seen fatquartershop’s free pattern for a mini quilt featuring a bottle of nail polish? I love it! It’s so quick and easy to assemble, and it even comes with a youtube tutorial.

As a colour loving girl you hardly ever see me without polished nails. I really love red nails, so I basically used the same colour combination as shown in the sample. For the “polish” part I went with a chevron fabric in two red tones, which added a bit of depth to the design. (I’m pretty proud of my piecing and continuing the chevron pattern.)

I decided against taking “girly” pictures of the quilt with my (embarrassingly large) collection of nail polish, but took it outside for a walk.

I quilted it using straight lines in two differing widths creating a pattern of varied rectangles and squares. The binding is a Rosali IKEA print, which works great because the polka dots are irregular.

I’ve seen lovely quilts made with this pattern – like this quilt of 6 bottles by Bee In My Bonnet or this version in purple and mustard by quilt jane.

finding quilt inspiration at home

Just yesterday, I liked about 30 pictures on instagram so much that I hit the love button on them. I just checked that back for you. Not all of them are quilting related. There are a couple of pictures from “other” friends, the obligatory pet picture and some others I liked ‘just because’. But even if, let’s say, only half of these 30 are quilting related, it’s another 15 inspirational ideas going into my imaginary “try that!” folder. Note that this was a pretty slow day on my IG feed, too!

straight line quilting patterns

Let me start with a confession: I’m afraid of free motion quilting and I feel lost without my walking foot!

The sheer thought of having to guide the fabric sandwich all.by.myself ruins the experience and result of free motion quilting for me. The few times I dipped my toes into it, I quickly found myself back with an installed walking foot and quilting straight lines again.
